Lovebird is a beautiful, attractive and a small parrot. There are nine types of Lovebird Parrot and all belong to the genus Agapornis, family Psittaculidae and subfamily Agapornithinae. They are also known as Pocket Parrots due to their small size. Lovebirds are monogamous pair bonding which means they are involved with one male or female at a time, so that’s why they are social and affectionate.
Lovebirds are active, curious and funny parrots. They are very sociable birds that form deep bonds with the person who is taking care of them and can result in very lovely birds. Lovebirds are affectionate, sociable and intelligent parrots in the world.
There are so many colors of Lovebirds, but mostly they are green, depending on the species, the upper part of its body is mostly green with different colors. Lovebirds have almost all the colors, but green, yellow and white are their famous colors. They are all quite vivid with different colored heads and faces from the main wings of the body. Many famous pet birds have mainly green plumage.
Lovebirds are one of the smallest parrots, with a strong structure, a small blunt tail and a relatively large, sharp beak that helps them to break the seeds, nuts, fruits very easily. As you know they are small parrots so their length is around 13 to 17 cm, which is around 5 to 7 inches. They have up to 24 cm wingspan and their average weight is around 40 to 60 grams.
History of Lovebird Parrot
If we talk about the history of Lovebirds, they are actually from Africa. These beautiful Lovebirds are native to the different forests and savannas of Sub Saharan Africa.
Lovebird Parrots were originally discovered in 1887, and were first bred in the United States in 1926. German explorer Gustav Fischer discovered these lovebirds.
Types of Lovebird
There are 9 types of lovebirds and each one is more beautiful than the other. Lovebird color differentiates them among each other, it means their color pattern from head to tail, differentiate them from each other. Their face, head, neck, wings, chest and tail have different colors.
If we talk about groups of lovebirds then all these different types of lovebirds are divided into three main groups. First is red headed or red faced lovebirds, then second is peach face lovebirds and a third is the white eye circled or white eye ringed lovebirds. Generally, all the types of lovebirds according to their different color pattern like masked, grey headed, red headed, peach faced, etc included in these three groups.

- Peach Faced Lovebird also known as Rosy Faced Lovebird
- Black Winged Lovebird and its second name is Abyssinian Lovebird
- Red headed Lovebird is also known as Red Faced Lovebird
